Visit duration

Visit duration is the time between a shopping tool leaving the collection area and reaching the checkout.

Definition

The trip starts when the trolley or basket leaves the entrance area and ends when it reaches a checkout. Queue time is reported separately, so visit duration is not inflated by slow tills.

Reading it

Longer visits are not always better. A layout that makes a fill-in mission take four minutes longer frustrates shoppers. Compare durations by mission and by shopping tool, and track their evolution after every change.
