Supermarkets and grocery

Find the extra margin hidden in your store operations.

In grocery, margin is won or lost on the shop floor. Shoppermotion measures how shoppers and staff move through each store, so you can recover the minutes lost to interrupted tasks, cleaning by rota and slow replenishment, and put them where they sell.

WAREHOUSEBAKERYCHECKOUT

Where the margin leaks in store operations.

Interrupted tasks

Bakery staff called to the checkout leave the oven mid-batch. Nobody counts how often it happens, or what it costs in product and hours.

Replenishment out of step with traffic

Shelves are filled when the rota says, not when shoppers arrive, so gaps open up during the peak.

Cleaning by rota, not by need

Teams repeat the same route every hour while the busiest zones wait for their turn.

Promotions that start late

The flyer is already in shoppers' hands while promo stock is still sitting in cages in the warehouse.

A backroom nobody measures

Inbound, staging and stock areas fill up at the wrong times, and the walk to the shop floor is longer than it should be.

Labour planned on habit

Tills, bakery and fresh counters are staffed on historic rotas rather than on traffic by hour.

Store operations, measured like the shopper journey.

Task interruptions

Count every time the bakery is called to the checkout.

Staff badges record which zone each role is working in and for how long. When the queue grows and a baker or a fresh counter assistant is called to the tills, the interruption appears with its duration, the time of day and the task left behind.

  • Interruptions by task, role and hour
  • Minutes lost per week and per store
  • Trolleys waiting at the tills when the call happened

Cleaning teams

Clean where shoppers walk, when they walk there.

Compare the routes of cleaning teams with shopper traffic by zone and hour. See which busy areas go too long without a pass, and which quiet ones are cleaned out of habit.

  • Coverage per zone and shift
  • Time since the last pass in each area
  • Routes redesigned around peak traffic

Warehouse and replenishment

From the warehouse to the promo display, without the wait.

Follow the carts and cages that take promotional stock from the warehouse to the shop floor. Measure how long each promotion takes from staging to shelf, how full each backroom area is by hour, and how far replenishment teams walk.

  • Staging to shelf time for every promotion
  • Backroom occupancy by area and hour
  • Trips and metres walked per replenishment shift

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How are staff and stock movements captured?

Staff wear small Bluetooth badges and tags can be fixed to carts and cages. They are located by the same Angle of Arrival antennas on the ceiling that follow trolleys and baskets, with sub-metre precision.

Is tracking staff compatible with privacy law?

Staff badges measure tasks and zones, and reports aggregate by role, team and shift rather than by person. As with any workplace monitoring, the deployment should be explained to employees and agreed with their representatives before it starts, in line with GDPR.

Does it use shoppers' personal data?

No. Shoppermotion tracks shopping tools, not people, so every trip is anonymous by design. Ticket matching uses only the items and, where the retailer shares it, a pseudonymised loyalty ID.

How long does it take to install a store?

A store is usually live within hours, with only minor works. The devices do not interfere with existing electrical or network installations.
