Shopping malls

Understand every visit to your centre, from the entrance to the food court.

With cameras or presence sensors at the entrances and in each zone, Shoppermotion counts footfall and follows anonymous movement between the hypermarket, the food court, the rest areas and the tenants. See what visitors came for, and how that changes through the week.

What mall managers can't see today.

Footfall at the doors, and then nothing

Entrance counters say how many came in, not where they went, how long they stayed or which exit they used.

A food court measured by its tills

Sales per restaurant don't show how many visitors enter the food court, when, or where they come from.

The anchor and the rest of the centre

Do hypermarket shoppers stay for a coffee or a rest, or go straight back to the car park?

Eat first or shop first?

The order of the visit changes with the day of the week, and it should shape opening hours, events and staffing.

Tenant conversations without data

Leasing and marketing teams need traffic per zone to price units and prove the value of campaigns and events.

What the data shows a centre manager.

Visit missions

What visitors came for, and where they go next.

Classify each visit by mission, from the weekly shop at the hypermarket to a quick lunch. See how many hypermarket shoppers also visit the rest area, the food court or the fashion units, and how many go straight back to the car park.

Day-of-week patterns

Do they eat and then shop, or the other way round?

Compare the order of visits by day and time. Weekday lunches and Saturday family visits behave differently, and the patterns tell you when to schedule events, extend food court hours or reinforce cleaning and security.

Entrances, exits and the food court

Footfall in and out of every zone.

Count entries and exits at every access and at the food court, hour by hour. Know which entrances feed each zone, how long visitors stay in the food court and rest areas, and how occupancy builds through the day.

Events and tenants

What each event is worth to your tenants.

Measure traffic before, during and after an event or pop-up, in the event area and in the surrounding units, and share the results with tenants and the leasing team.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How is visitor traffic measured in a shopping mall?

Visitors in a mall do not use trolleys or baskets, so Shoppermotion measures traffic with cameras or presence sensors installed at the entrances and in each zone. The data is reported per zone, in real time.

Can it tell whether visitors eat before or after shopping?

Yes, where sensors cover the food court and the main zones. Movement between zones is measured anonymously, so the order of visits can be compared by day and hour without identifying anyone.

What are the four types of visit missions?

Regular stock-up (many stores, many products), daily shop (some stores, daily-use products), target shopping (a few stores for products that ran out) and urgent item (one or two stores for something very specific).

What can a mall measure for an event or pop-up?

Traffic before and after, engagement rate, conversion rate, where people come from, visit frequency, and benchmarks with previous campaigns or similar centres.
