Angle of Arrival (AoA)
Angle of Arrival is a Bluetooth 5.1 positioning method where antenna arrays measure the angle of a tag's signal to compute its position with sub-metre accuracy.
How it works
Each AoA anchor contains an array of antennas. A Bluetooth tag broadcasts a short packet; the tiny phase differences between antennas reveal the direction it came from. Combining the angles measured by several anchors gives the tag's X and Y position.
Why AoA
- Sub-metre accuracy, far better than signal-strength (RSSI) methods.
- Low-power tags that last for years on a coin battery.
- No cameras and no personal devices involved.
