Shoppermotion vs POS, loyalty and receipt data alone

Receipt data tells you what was bought. Shoppermotion adds the path that led to it, and matches every anonymous trip with its ticket.

POS, loyalty-card and receipt data are the backbone of retail analytics: they show what sold, when, in which store and, with a loyalty programme, how members buy over time. What they cannot show is the visit itself: which aisles a shopper walked, where they stopped without buying, or whether they passed an end cap or a screen before reaching the till.

Shoppermotion does not replace receipt data, it builds on it. Ticket matching pairs each anonymous trip with the receipt issued at that till at that moment, using only the items and, where the retailer shares it, a pseudonymised loyalty ID. Every stop in the path gets an outcome.

That closes the loop for in-store media. Sales before and after a campaign show that something changed, not why; our guide to offline attribution explains how observing exposure in the aisle adds the missing step.

Choose Shoppermotion if

  • You want to know why a product did or did not sell: traffic, stops and conversion at the shelf.
  • You need to attribute sales to in-store media with exposure you can verify, not only before-and-after sales.
  • You want to find shoppers who stopped at a category but left without buying.

Consider the alternative if

  • You only need sales performance by product, store and period.
  • Your main question is long-term customer behaviour across stores and channels, which loyalty data covers well.
  • You need a view of every sale, including shoppers who do not use a trolley or basket.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Does Shoppermotion need our receipt data?

Receipts are what turn a path into an outcome. Each trip is matched with the ticket issued at that till at that moment, which unlocks conversion per bay and deterministic offline attribution.

Is personal data used in ticket matching?

No. A trip inherits the ticket's items and, where the retailer shares it, a pseudonymised loyalty ID. Never a name or payment data.

Can receipt data alone measure in-store media?

Only indirectly, by comparing sales before and after a campaign. It shows that something changed, not whether shoppers actually passed or looked at the placement.
