How missions are classified
Shoppermotion takes into account more than 50 variables of each journey: time and day, shopping tool, duration, number of zones visited, stops, order of categories and the items on the matched ticket. A model trained on millions of trips assigns each visit to a mission.
The standard missions
- Stock-up: long trips, usually with a trolley, covering most of the store.
- Fill-in: medium trips to replenish a handful of categories.
- Urgent item: short, direct trips for one or two products.
- Fresh food: trips focused on produce, bakery, butcher or fish.
Why it matters
The same store serves very different shoppers at different times. Knowing which mission prevails in each daypart lets category managers adapt assortment and layout, and lets media teams target in-store screens to the right audience.
